In other words, out of the 7,000+ teachers trained in a period of 4 years, only 16.5% could write examinations on basic English language skills and Mathematics or Numeracy skills.

Excerpts of papers by candidates

Ghanaians responded to the sad news with hung heads rather than hi fives.

Although examinations are typically set to trip the candidate up, most of the questions would-be  teachers answered were no-brainer.

Before we show the scripts, let’s state categorically that like any examination, the examiners made some silly mistakes by marking one or more correct answers wrong. This is not uncommon in education and examinations.

Take a gander at excerpts of candidates worksheet and you’d be convinced that Ghana’s education is a tempest in a teapot.

According to Albert Einstein,”if you cannot explain it simple enough, then you don’t understand it”. For these teachers students, they seem to have no idea on how to write a simple composition or work out basic arithmetic or algebra.

If you’re not worried that the person who’ll potentially be teaching you kid from kindergarten to the Senior High School has problem spelling correctly simple words let alone putting words together, then nothing will bother you in your life.

Most candidates have poor comprehension skills, poor composition skills and shockingly terrible handwriting not to talk of their inability to spell basic words.
