When I switched on my television set that evening, I least expected to be hit by that frightening news about our education system in the country.
The news of more than 80% of prospective teachers failing their Teacher licensure examination was nerve-racking, to say the least.
According to the Registrar of the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE), Dr. Christian Addai-Poku, out of the 7,728 prospective teachers who sat for the licensure examination in May, 2023, just a handful of 1,277 passed.
In other words, out of the 7,000+ teachers trained in a period of 4 years, only 16.5% could write examinations on basic English language skills and Mathematics or Numeracy skills.

If you’re not worried that the person who’ll potentially be teaching you kid from kindergarten to the Senior High School has problem spelling correctly simple words let alone putting words together, then nothing will bother you in your life.
Most candidates have poor comprehension skills, poor composition skills and shockingly terrible handwriting not to talk of their inability to spell basic words.
(1) Candidates with unreadable handwriting and unintelligible composition

Aside the esoteric handwriting that immediately strikes you in the face, one can hardly understand a single statement in this write-up.
(2) Common words spelt wrong by teacher candidates

It will amaze you to realize that teacher candidates couldn’t spell words among others such as
