Sharing images online can easily reveal personal details. Cameras often embed location and other hidden data, and facial recognition can identify people in your photos.
Discretion, an app for Mac and iOS by David Kennedy, removes all metadata and blurs faces automatically. It’s useful when you want to post publicly without exposing locations or people, like children or unconsenting friends.
The app is easy to use. Open it, add a photo, and all faces are instantly hidden.

Faces are hidden by grey circles by default. You can switch to other colors or, with the paid version, use emojis. Each face can have a unique color or emoji, and circle sizes are adjustable. In tests, the app effectively covered all identifiable features.
Discretion also removes all embedded metadata from photos, including device info, camera settings, and GPS coordinates.
This feature works even if face covering is turned off, keeping location and other details private.
The free version handles single photos well, while the paid version adds batch processing and emoji face filters. Pricing is $1.99/year or $4.99 for lifetime access.
