The belief that teachers are the least respected public servants in the country gathered new momentum when the least expected person, Nana Yeboah, a comedian actor, threw shades freely at Ghanaian teachers for embarking on strike in protest for their Condition Of Living Allowance (COLA) due to the unprecedented and neck-breaking inflation that has gripped the country and rippled through every facet of the economy.

In a rare stunt by the androgynous comedian, he called on the President to sack all the striking teachers.

He claimed government continued to pay teachers during the coronavirus lockdown yet they did not work. The “hermaphrodite” added that teachers in the country have been over-pampered and it was time government showed them the exit.

According to Nana Yeboah, teachers’ claim for a 20% COLA was terrible and insensitive on their part given the ragged state of the country’s economy.

“Ghanaian teachers, why are you so over-pampered? What is the meaning of this? Do you want government to give all the nation’s resources (or income) to you”, he said

Some teachers reply the Kumawood actor

As expected, a lot of salvos came in the direction of the Kumawood actor with some calling him “misguided”, “illiterate”, “stupid”.

The arrogance of Nana Yeboah as a result of the quick game he’s managed to exact for himself, thanks to his characteristic funny insults he hurls at his opponents in his movies was laid bare in the eyes of the Ghanaian public.

While some teachers expressed shock at the “unprecedented stupidity” of the Kumawood actor, others called for an economic blockade on him by refusing to watch any movie or skit he has or will feature in.

What is COLA?

COLA is short for Cost Of Living Allowance.

It’s an allowance given to government employees as a temporary solution to cushion them against high living costs when immediate salary increment is not feasible.

That’s to imply that COLA is abolished immediately salary increment is effected to absorb high living cost.

Due to the deplorable state of the nation’s economy, demanding a salary increase would be unthinkable by government so in a win-win situation, teachers sought for a Cost Of Living Allowance in the interim before any permanent salary adjustment could be made.
