Ghana’s Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has reported a sudden rise in COVID-19 cases, mostly at the University of Ghana.
He identified the Omicron variant as the main cause.
During a Parliament briefing today, Akandoh shared test results:

The minister reassured citizens that none of these new cases have led to hospital stays or deaths.
Health officials have stepped up monitoring and testing, focusing on schools to stop the virus from spreading.
The minister advised people to:

Get vaccinated, especially booster doses
He blamed the quick spread on a crowded hall week event at the University of Ghana.
“Mr. Speaker, our investigation revealed several problems that helped the virus spread,” the minister explained. “The biggest issue was the University’s Hall Week celebrations. These events drew large crowds where few people wore masks or kept their distance.”
