Education authorities have urgently closed Nkwanta Senior High School following violent tribal clashes that left three students injured by gunfire. The Ghana Education Service took action after two consecutive days of dangerous unrest at the Oti Region institution.
The temporary closure addresses immediate safety concerns, with no set date for resuming classes. Officials confirm the wounded students are receiving care while security forces attempt to restore calm in the area.
The incident has reignited discussions about protecting students in Ghana’s schools during ethnic conflicts. Local leaders are demanding swift solutions to prevent further violence.
Education officials made this decision after emergency talks with security forces. On June 26, two female day students were shot while traveling to school.
The clashes continued the next day, when a male student died after being hit by a stray bullet during classroom exams.
