A U.S. military mission early Saturday placed Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro under American control, according to Republican Senator Mike Lee, who cited Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Lee shared on X that Rubio confirmed Maduro was detained by U.S. personnel to face criminal proceedings in the United States, emphasizing that the operation ensured the safety of those carrying out the warrant.

Maduro now faces a series of legal cases in the U.S., while Rubio noted that his capture should ease tensions, with no further military measures expected.

The operation, carried out under an existing warrant, casts uncertainty over Caracas as Washington prepares for a highly visible trial.
