The one week funeral rite celebration of the late Prince Yawson, popularly known by his stage name, Waakye, has been observed in Accra.
Speaking to mourners, the Veteran actress – Grace Omaboe (Maame Dokono) minced no words when she alleged that Waakye was first sent to Korlebu hospital but he was told they had no bed to admit him. He was then rushed to Ridge hospital where he was again denied a bed for admission. He later secured bed at the 37 Military hospital after waiting for 4 hours in the car.
She therefore accused the health workers at 37 Military hospital for having a part to play in Waakye’s untimely demise.
Maame Dokono told mourners that Waakye, herself and other celebrities had attended the 70th birthday of Amankwaa Ampofo which was also to celebrate his 50 years anniversary in the radio broadcasting profession a week before Waakye was reportedly struck with stroke.
The Obra drama group was invited to the anniversary which saw Prince (Waakye) and all other actors together.
The veteran actor, now turned pastor, had taken an early leave of them with the excuse that he couldn’t eat in public due to his new capacity as a pastor.
Waakye develops stroke a week later
Maame Dokono told the sympathizers at the funeral gathering that Mr. Amankwaa Ampofo called and informed her that Waakye had developed a stroke a week later and that he had been taken to the 37 Military hospital.
Abandoned in a car for at least 4 hours
Maame Dokono alleged that the deceased actor was not attended to in time and that he was abandoned for at least 4 hours in the car by officials at the 37 Military hospital.
Waakye sustained injury while on admission
Another allegation lodged by Maame Dokono was the claim that the stroke stricken actor had developed a crack in his skin on the forehead by the next day apparently due to a fall. According to her, the wife of the deceased had opted to keep a watch over the feeble husband but authorities at the hospital had turned her away yet refused to keep a close eye on the patient.
Maame Dokono asked whether Ghanaians or Ghanaian actors/actresses “are animals or not” to be ignored or treated as such. She added that if Waakye had been given “prompt attention” he may not have bowed out so early.
Maame Dokono revealed this during the deceased’s one week celebration in Accra. The occasion brought together members of the Obra drama group such as abrob3 (pineapple) and many others.
