Report: Elizabeth Holmes’ Alleged Partner Raising Funds for New Blood-Testing Startup

Billy Evans, partner of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, is creating a new startup called Haemanthus that aims to provide “human health optimization” through innovative blood testing technology, as reported by The New York Times. Haemanthus has developed a machine that utilizes lasers to analyze blood, saliva, and urine samples for the detection of cancer and infections. The company plans to initially focus on pet health before expanding to human health. Haemanthus is seeking to raise over $50 million in funding. The startup’s approach has drawn comparisons to Theranos, the disgraced blood testing company led by Holmes, who is currently serving an 11-year prison sentence for defrauding investors. Despite her legal troubles, Holmes remains dedicated to her vision of making healthcare solutions accessible to all. Notably, early Facebook investor Jim Breyer declined to invest in Haemanthus, citing similarities to his previous decision to pass on Theranos.
